We are also working towards designating formalcommunityrecreationalaccessareas,creatingawarenesssigns,and rolling out a Lands/AHRF Appforawarenessbuildingandlearningefforts.TheAHRFworkedwithGunahaforTsuut’ina translationontheproposedlearningandawarenesssigns.
The AHRF is investigating beaver coexistence withfishandhumansonthenation,completingshorelineassessments,preserving natural habitats,managing poplars and weeds,and collaborativelycontributingtothedevelopmentoftheLand’sPortfolio’s information database.
The Tsuutina Nation's Aquatic Habitat Restoration Fund (AHRF) program has several ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting aquatic habitat conservation and restoration.
Through these collaborative initiatives, the Tsuut'inaNation is actively working towards preserving and restoring aquatic habitat in the region.
FISH STUDIES AND FIELDWORK
Tsuut'ina Nation is working collaboratively with several watershed organizations and environmental professionals topromoteaquatichabitatconservationandrestoration.The Elbow River Watershed Partnership (ERWP)is undertaking apodcastprojectfocusingonlandandenvironment,featuring insight from Tsuut’ina Nation Elders.We are also planning tocollaboratewithERWPtocarryoutabenthicinvertebratestudyforTsuut’ina Nation.In June,the Chief Big Belly MiddleSchoolparticipatedinafieldtriptoFishCreekincollaborationwithFriendsofFishCreekvolunteers,funded by the AHRF.
COLLABORATION WITH ORGANIZATIONS
The AHRF is conducting several studies andfieldworkactivities,including water qualitysampling,REDD Counts &fish habitatassessmentsinWolf(Fish)Creek,and macrobenthicinvertebratesamplingwiththeElbowRiverWatershedPartnershipinElbowtributaries.
The AHRF has partnered with the non-profit society “Friends of Fish Creek”in the completion of a REDD count survey
(counting fish egg nests)in Fish Creek (Wolf Creek)on reserve.
Another project lead by Professional Biologist,Kirby England in collaboration with AHRF,the beaver coexistence study,was
launched in May through a pipe ceremony.Field work will focus on impacts of beaver on fish habitat on Tsuut’ina Nation so
that we may learn to live in harmony and understand this relationship better.
We are in contact with the Fish Creek Watershed Association (FCWA)to share information and discuss FCWA studies for
Fish Creek and Priddis Creek.
